Tamil alphabet or jalebi? The internet is confused over what inspired the Threads logo

July 7, 2023
Sezarr

The Threads logo has confused many people on the Internet.

Meta officially launched Threads on Thursday. New social media application is on the market to rival billionaire Elon Musk’s Twitter. Social media networks allow people to come together and discuss everything “they care about today or what’s trending tomorrow”. Amidst all this, several internet users have pointed out that the logo of the application bears a striking resemblance to the Dravidian languages Tamil and Malayalam.

Several users have claimed that it is inspired by the Tamil alphabet letter “ku”, while others said it is similar to the Malayalam letters “thr” and “kra”. However, a section of people on the internet argued that it also represents the Hindu syllable “Om”.

Is it me or does anyone else think the logo of the upcoming Threads app looks like a 90-degree clockwise rotation of the Malayalam letter थ्र (pronounced ‘thra’) that rhymes with the ‘thr’ in Threads. #threads#threadsapp#metapic.twitter.com/PbfbQZu73l

A user said, “Is it me or does anyone else notice that the logo of the upcoming Threads app looks like a 90-degree clockwise rotation of the Malayalam letter (pronounced as ‘thra’) that appears in Threads.” Rhymes with ‘thr’.”

Another person said, “The Threads logo looks exactly like Kra in Malayalam.”

One person said, “How come no one has commented on the similarity of the Threads logo to the letter ‘Om’.”

“Did you know that the Threads logo is based on the Indo-Dravidian language Malayalam sound – “KRA”. It symbolizes the sound of a crow, a black bird in place of Twitter’s blue bird.”

Interestingly, several Twitter users even commented that the logo of the app resembles the Indian sweet Jalebi.

“Right now, people are opening the Threads app like they’re eating jalebis for their breakfast. Same energy. Just us or does the Threads logo look like an ear?…” added one person.

Another user said, “Threads are kinda dead with this fresh logo feature… I’m kind of hyped”

One user commented, “Whenever I see the Threads logo, I feel like eating jalebis.”

While Meta’s new app has already gained more than 30 million users in a day, Elon Musk-led Twitter has threatened a lawsuit, claiming Threads infringes on its “intellectual property rights”. . Mr Musk’s lawyer Alex Spiro has written to Meta’s CEO accusing him of “unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property”.
