Finance Minister Palanivel Thyaga Rajan presented the Union Budget for 2022-23 in the House today.
The government is expected to implement some of the assurances made in its election manifesto.
Later in the day, the Chairman will convene a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, which will decide the duration of the meeting.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan while presenting the budget said that the revenue deficit has come down by Rs 7,000 crore. The Revised Budget Estimates had pegged the revenue deficit at Rs 58,692.68 crore for 2021-22. He said the state’s economy may suffer due to inflationary pressures, which experts have warned about.

Mr. Thiaga Rajan said Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested the Center to extend the period of GST compensation, which ends in June 2022, by two years. He hoped that the Center would consider it.

The state government will file a report on the action taken on the recommendations made by the 6th State Finance Commission, which submitted its report recently.
