MK Stalin says his government aims to provide accident free roads in the state

Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday announced that the section of East Coast Road (ECR) from Chennai to Mamallapuram will be renamed as Muthamis Arignar Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai after former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

75. speaking in th Speaking at the anniversary celebrations of the State Highways Department, he said the announcements made for the department were dedicated to the former chief minister as he was instrumental in implementing several important projects for the department.

Urging the officials of the Highways Department to ensure the quality of the roads, he said that the quality of the road has the power to bring praise or brick-and-mortar to the government. The Chief Minister said that providing accident free roads is his aim and these have brought happiness to the people along with economic development, industrial development and tourism.

Complimenting the Highways Department for creating the necessary infrastructure affecting the lives of the general public, he said that land acquisition was one of the major reasons behind the delay in the projects. A total of 184 posts of Tehsildars had been created for land acquisition, he said, adding that he hoped that the delay in acquiring land would no longer be taken as a reason.

Earlier, Mr Stalin also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a flyover at Central Kailash Junction in Chennai at a cost of ₹46.54 crore and a flyover near Rajaji Hospital at Goripalayam in Madurai at a cost of ₹199.12 crore and a link bridge between Vivekananda Rock and . The cost of Tiruvallur idol in Kanniyakumari is Rs 37 crores. He launched 32 projects for widening of 255 km of roads in 13 districts under Mukhyamantri Sadak Vikas Pariyojana at a total cost of Rs.2124 crore.

Mr Stalin, who had 75. opened a column to mark th anniversary celebrations, a souvenir was also released on the occasion.

Highways Minister EV Velu, Health Minister Mr. Subramaniam, MP Thamizachi Thangapandian, Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu and Highways Department Secretary Dheeraj Kumar were present.
