Tamil Nadu Rains: The Thenpenai river in Villupuram was in spate while Kancheepuram was full of rain.

Tamil Nadu has received 68 per cent excess rainfall during the ongoing northeast monsoon and over three people and over 300 cattle have died in the last 24 hours, the government said on Saturday.
Large amounts of water were being released from reservoirs including Mettur in Salem, which caters to the Cauvery delta districts.
The Thenpenai river in Villupuram was in spate while Kancheepuram was in full bloom.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, KKSSR Ramachandran said that the state has received 518.99 mm of rain since October 1, which was over 68 per cent during the period.
He said in a release that 37 districts of the state have received rain in the last 24 hours, with Tirupathur district receiving the highest rainfall of 39.91 mm.
In Villupuram, 18,500 hectares of agricultural land was submerged due to the Thenpenai overflow and efforts were on to clean the water.
Around 10,000 people have been kept in 220 relief camps in the district.
In neighboring Cuddalore district, the number of persons in such camps was 4,000.
“Three people have died in Krishnagiri and Tiruvannamalai districts in the last 24 hours,” he said. He said 368 cattle have also been killed.
While 65,000 cusecs of water was being released from Mettur, the quantity was 29,684 cusecs at Poondi, which supplies Chennai.
NDRF teams were involved in various activities in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Vellore.
In addition, 419 camps were active in 14 districts of the state where more than 34,000 people evacuated from low-lying areas are housed, Ramachandran said.
