Tamil Nadu Rains: Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai district will remain closed on Monday in view of incessant rains in the state, announced the Mayiladuthurai District Collector.
On Sunday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected the rain-affected and waterlogged areas and said that the Drainage Department and the Public Works Department are working in the waterlogged areas of the state.
He said that rains would continue in the state but there was no danger.
He further said that he would visit the Serkazhi area of Nagapattinam district of the state and inspect the rain-affected areas.
“Tonight I am going to Sirkazhi and after Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore to inspect,” Stalin said.
Earlier on November 11, a holiday was declared for all schools and colleges located in Tiruvallur, Sivagangai, Madurai, Kancheepuram and Dindigul amid an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“Based on the forecast of rain tomorrow, a holiday has been declared for tomorrow in all schools and colleges of Tiruvallur district,” Tiruvallur District Collector tweeted on Thursday.
Schools and colleges will also remain closed in Kanchipuram and Madurai districts while schools will remain closed in Sivagangai district and Dindigul districts only.
On Sunday, the IMD said that a low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast is likely to become more marked during the next 24 hours with associated cyclonic circulation.
