TANGEDCO suspends power officials for poor performance

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has suspended an Assistant Engineer and a Junior Engineer on the basis of a review meeting organized by Power Minister V. Senthilbalaji. A review meeting was held at Kalaivanar Arangam on Friday.

A senior Tangedco official said M. Shanmugam, working as a junior engineer at New Washermanpet office in Chennai North, and V. Mageswari, working as an assistant engineer at Thoraipakkam, were suspended based on the feedback received from senior officials for their performance. Has been done. In not bringing down the complaints lodged through Minnagam Call Center.

Due to the suspension of two engineers, there is anger among the power personnel of the Operations and Management Department. The engineers met Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Lakhoni on Monday evening with a list of demands through the office bearers of various engineer associations.

An office-bearer of the Engineers’ Union said that a lot of pressure was being put on the local authorities to give priority to complaints received only through Minnagam call centre. He said that the complaints received through the centralized call number 1912 before the commencement of the center were automatically forwarded to the Fuse of Call (FOC) offices during night time and the electrical issues were rectified by the FOC team. But now all the calls are being routed through Assistant Engineers/Junior Engineers resulting in heavy workload.

A memorandum submitted by the Tamil Nadu Power Engineers Organization to the CMD has sought to provide adequate and quality material to prevent repeated power complaints.

A senior TANGEDCO official said that the action to suspend the officers was based on the performance report where recurring complaints were received at the Minngam center and to address their ‘sluggish’ attitude.

Regarding the additional workload from Minnagam complaint calls, the senior official said that in the new system, complaints were sent to local authorities to apprise them of issues that needed to be stopped in future.
