Indian market ended the current trading week on a volatile note. However, on Friday, Sensex and Nifty 50 managed to rebound to a certain degree on the back of a positive domestic outlook accompanied by global cues. Auto stocks were in focus as monthly sales figures came in strong. BSE Midcap touched an all-time high, while smallcap stocks extended their winning streak.
Sensex closed at 62,547.11, up by 118.57 points or 0.19%. Nifty 50 jumped by 46.35 points or 0.25% to end at 18,534.10. Banking stocks saw gaining momentum after facing selling pressure in the previous two trading sessions. Bank Nifty 50 closed at 43,937.85 up by 148 points. BSE Bankex surged by 185 points.
Metal stocks were top gainers with the index on BSE climbing by 332.5 points primarily due to their monthly production data. Auto and Capital Goods stocks followed with an upside of 322 points and 312 points. Consumer durables, FMCG, and healthcare also recorded substantial gains. Oil and gas and IT stocks were top laggards.
Talking about the market performance, Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services said, “This week the Indian market was volatile, however, it was able to regain the momentum led by positive domestic outlook accompanied by global cues. Auto stocks garnered attention as sales numbers for May came in strong, with a sequential recovery boosting sentiment across the sector.”
He added, “The hope that the Fed will refrain from a rate hike has provided comfort to the global equity market.”
More stocks advanced on June 2nd trading session than declined. About 2,181 stocks advanced, while 1,364 stocks declined and 130 stocks remained unchanged.
A total of 203 stocks touched their fresh 52-week high, while 37 stocks touched their new 52-week low.

Top losers: Adani Enterprises (-2.09%), BPCL (-1.30%), HDFC Life (-1.05%), TCS (-0.53%), and Wipro (-0.44%).

Top gainers: Graphite India (+12.26%), Best Agrolife (+11.27%), Lloyds Steels Industries (+10.05%), HEG (+9.69%), and Globus Spirits (+9.18%).
Top losers: VRL Logistics (-6.52%), Dilip Buildcon (-4.92%), Optiemus Infracom (-3.42%), NIIT (-3.18%), and Valiant Organics (-2.88%).
