Tata Motors is expanding its presence in the CNG vehicle segment. The Indian automaker plans to launch the Tata Tiago NRG CNG in the Indian market. Ahead of the official launch, the company teased the hatchback CNG and described it as “India’s first Toughroader CNG coming soon”. The car has been shown from a distance in the 11-second teaser released on YouTube. It is to be noted that earlier, CNG cars from the automaker were till now sold with the suffix “i-CNG”. For instance, the automaker already has the Tata Tiago i-CNG and the Tigor i-CNG in the Indian market.
The engine and gearbox in the Tiago NRG CNG will be similar to the Tiago iCNG. This is a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated, three-cylinder engine that can generate a maximum of 86 PS and a maximum of 113 Nm. Power output drops to 73 PS when running on CNG, and torque output drops to 95 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT gearbox is mated to the engine. However, the CNG kit will only be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Being a derivative of the Tata Tiago NRG, the hatchback is expected to get higher ground clearance, faux skid plates, new color schemes and new wheels than the regular Tiago. Apart from this, NRG badges can be seen on its body.
Additionally, Tata may equip its CNG vehicles with i-CNG technology. A leak detection feature, premium stainless steel, and rust and corrosion-resistant materials will all be included. Additionally, there is thermal event protection. This function turns off the engine’s CNG feed and allows the gas to escape into the air. Additionally, a sensor is fitted in the petrol cap to prevent the car from starting when the fuel cap is open. Tata’s iCNG automobiles have the option of CNG start.
