Tati Munjalu aka Ice Apples are ruling the summer fruit markets in Visakhapatnam

The summer season is considered dreadful for the people living in the coastal areas. The scorching heat of the sun along with excessive humidity, which leads to excessive sweating, makes our life quite dreadful. At times like these, when we have to step out for work, a glass of coconut water, lemon soda and other refreshing drinks rejuvenates us, making us heave a sigh of relief. Apart from fruit juices, solid fruits like watermelon are also a much loved item among the masses. Watermelon is in great demand during summers as its fruit has cooling properties.

Now to give a tough competition to watermelon, another special fruit called Tati Munjalu or Ice Apple has arrived. Earlier this delicious fresh, watery fruit had a major disadvantage that Tati Munjalu was found in rural areas but not in urban areas. Now, Tati Munjalu is available everywhere.

In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, these snow apples have become one of the most sought-after summer fruits. People are coming to the roadside vendors to get relief from the fatigue caused by the rising temperature.

Some local vendors named Nagaraju Golugonda Mandal have expressed grief that with the advent of tati munjalu, the demand for another summer special fruit called tatikaya has gone down. Tati Munjalu has captured the Tatikaya market by becoming a best-seller in Visakhapatnam.

Shopkeepers say that even after sitting at the same place from morning to evening, no customers are buying the beach.

Needless to say, water-filled ice apples are doing good business in Andhra Pradesh. Vendors selling Tati Munjalu instead of other summer fruits like Tatikaya are earning really well. The family members of Tati Munjalu vendor first pluck the fruits from the tree and sell them throughout the day. Right now a dozen Tati Munjalas are being sold for Rs.50. By evening the vendors earn around Rs 1,000.
