Taxi to Vladimir: Putin says he drove cabs after Soviet collapse – Times of India

Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin where is the fall of the Soviet Union Spellings of the End of “Historical” Russia,” revealing that he drove a taxi to meet his needs after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Putin, former agent of the Soviet Union KGB Security services, which have previously mourned the collapse of the USSR, said the disintegration three decades ago remains a “tragedy” for “most civilians”.
The comments, reported Sunday by state-run news agency RIA Novosti, were excerpts from an upcoming film by broadcaster Channel One, dubbed “Russia. Recent History”.
“What is the collapse of the Soviet Union after all? It is the collapse of historical Russia in the name of the Soviet Union,” the Russian leader was quoted as saying.
A loyal servant of the Soviet Union, Putin was dismayed when it collapsed, once calling the collapse “the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century”.
Putin is sensitive to the alleged expansion of Western military ambitions in former Soviet countries and Russia demanded this week that nato formally rescinded the 2008 decision to open its doors to Georgia and Ukraine.
The end of the League brought with it a period of intense economic instability that plunged many into poverty, as newly independent Russia transitioned from communism to capitalism.
Reporting from excerpts from the documentary, RIA-Novosti said that Putin had disclosed that he occasionally worked as a taxi driver to increase his income.
“Sometimes I had to earn extra money,” Putin said.
“I mean, make extra money from a car as a private driver. It’s unpleasant to talk about, to be honest, but unfortunately, it was like that.”
Russia was the center of the Soviet Union which grew to include 15 republics from the Baltic in the west to Central Asia.
In 1991, the Soviet Union disintegrated due to economic crisis and Russia became an independent nation.
