Government Advisor (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of pedlandariki illu Scheme under which the government is planning to build 30 lakh houses for BPL category families.
“TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has reached a new low by misleading the courts. It has come to the fore that none of the 129 petitioners had approached the court and the petition was filed by some others. We will approach the division bench for further orders,” said Mr Ramakrishna Reddy on Monday.
Sri Ramakrishna Reddy claimed that the state government was not violating any rules and the housing project met the norms laid down by the National Building Code (NBC).
plinth area
Comparing with the previous governments, he said that the plinth area of Indiramma houses was 215 sq ft, and only 224 sq ft for the houses built during the TDP regime. But, the YSRCP government is building houses in an area of 340 square feet. “As per NBC norms, the minimum plinth area required for construction of a house is 221.9 sq ft. However, the state government is building houses with plinth area more than the minimum.
The government is building houses in an area of 31.72 square metres, while states like Arunachal Pradesh are providing houses for only 25 square metres. The same is 27.1 square meters in Uttar Pradesh, 28.07 square meters in Odisha, 28.05 square meters in Tamil Nadu, 28.42 square meters in Jharkhand.
“TDP leaders are doing cheap politics out of jealousy. Some political forces are using the courts to further their selfish goals. We hope justice will prevail. Around 31 lakh poor families are homeless in the state and the objective of the housing scheme is to provide them shelter,” said Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy.
He clarified that the YSRCP government had taken this initiative as a mission to fulfill the dream of building houses for the poor and started construction of 15.6 lakh houses in compliance with the required standards.
“The previous TDP government had considered building houses in just 220-300 square feet under the TIDCO project which is a three-storey building. Even as the state government is building independent houses in an area of 340 sq ft, opposition parties are stalling the project citing environmental impact. Why was Mr. Naidu silent on the environmental impact during his tenure when houses with low plinth areas were built?” He asked.
