Tejashwi Surya did not open the emergency gate, was already worried: Tamil Nadu BJP chief

As a row over the inauguration of emergency exit of IndiGo aircraft by BJP MP Tejashwi Surya, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai, who was traveling with Surya, came forward to his rescue and narrated the incident in detail. He insisted that the bright sun flagged that the emergency door was not in the right place and was upset. Annamalai said the issue was blown out of proportion as some members of the DMK and the Congress were traveling in the same plane.

Annamalai said, “Tejashwi is an educated and responsible person. It was not his fault that the flight was delayed.” He said that it was not possible to open the emergency door.

BJP He said that amid the initial seating adjustments, Surya was uncomfortable with his sitting position and people were also coming near him to take selfies and photos. During all this commotion his hand accidentally touches the emergency door and Surya realizes that the door is not quite at the right place.

Annamalai said, “I saw and I would not say that the door was open but it seemed that the position of the door was slightly deviated from its original position.”

“When everyone’s looking at you, can you turn the screw and open the door? Yes, the door was dislodged. But what Congress They are saying that Tejashwi Surya brought the screw and then opened the emergency exit and showed it to everyone. This is very stupid,” Annamalai said.

After BJP leaders informed the crew about the issue, the pilot came to check, and eventually an engineer was called in to fix the emergency door in its correct position. Annamalai said it was a 5-minute process, but the engineer insisted on following the procedure regarding cabin pressure, so we all were asked to deplane.

Annamalai said Tejasvi was asked by the crew to write an incident report and as he felt a little guilty, he apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience, after which an elderly woman also blessed him. He said, “I clearly remember an elderly passenger blessing him and saying to Tejashwi, ‘Son, it is your karma and our karma that nothing mischievous happened and you came to know’.”

The matter came to light on January 17 and the airline informed about the incident without naming Tejashwi Surya. Congress party attacked BJP and South Bangalore MP on this issue

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also commented on the issue and said, “I think it is important to look at the facts. The door was opened by mistake…and he himself said sorry for it.”
