Telangana school’s registration canceled after 4-year-old girl was raped on campus

A kindergarten student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a driver working for the principal of a school in Telangana. After the incident came to light recently, state education minister P Sabita Indra Reddy on Friday directed the authorities to immediately cancel the recognition of the school. The girl’s mother complained to the police on Tuesday that her daughter told her that she had some pain in her legs.

The matter came to light when it came to light that a man working in the school in Banjara Hills took her to a room in the campus and raped the girl student. Parents had reached the school to know about the matter. As they were entering the premises, the girl identified the person who had harassed her. Police said the man turned out to be the driver of the school principal. The driver has been arrested.

The school principal’s driver has been accused of raping and sexually abusing the girl child for more than two months. A complaint has been made to the principal of the school. The principal laughed off the complaint about the alleged misbehavior, and did not act on it, and was even arrested. The incident was opposed by parents and political parties. Several parents sat on a dharna in front of Banjara Hills police station, following which an FIR was registered.

During investigation it was found that the CCTV installed in the school was not working. Also, the driver often played the role of a teacher for the pre-primary section. Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday sought a detailed report from the state government.

The Education Minister ordered the cancellation of the registration of the school where about 700 students study. However, this has raised concerns among parents as they now have to find seats for their children in other schools in the middle of the academic year.

The minister has also constituted a committee under the chairmanship of education secretary of Telangana which will submit a report to the government on what safety measures can be taken to prevent such incidents in future. The members of the committee will include the Director of School Education, Secretary in the Department of Women and Child Welfare and a senior official dealing with the protection of children against sexual offences. Report to be submitted in a week.
