Tension after 26-year-old’s murder in Shivamogga

Shivamogga pelted stones and torched vehicles following the killing of a pro-Hindutva activist on Sunday (February 20) night.

26-year-old Santosh, a resident of Sigehatti in Shivamogga, was attacked by a group of unidentified persons in Bharti Colony at around 10 pm, he was taken to Mac Gan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He is said to be associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), one of the organizations affiliated with the ‘Sangh Parivar’, which also includes the ruling BJP.

As the news of the murder spread, incidents of stone pelting and vehicles being torched came to light in some parts of Shivamogga. Police have been deployed in sensitive areas. Senior police officers are monitoring the situation.

Holiday for schools and colleges

Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Selvamani R. declared a holiday in schools and colleges on February 21 in the wake of the murder and subsequent incidents.

“The situation is tense. The administration is trying to prevent it from getting worse. Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges,” informed DC Hindu on February 21.
