Tension prevails in the state capital since the arrival of the city police on Tuesday Arrested former MLA and Youth Congress State Vice President KS Sabrinadhan In connection with the in-flight protest against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The news of the arrest of the Congress leader led to protests outside the office of the Shanghmugham Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), where he was interrogated. The Congress protesters, who managed to enter the campus, vented their anger by thumping on a police vehicle parked outside the building.
Despite a massive deployment, the police convoy led by Shanghmugham ACP DK Prithviraj was struggling to escort the accused out of the premises after formally registering the arrest. The agitation continued at the General Hospital where he was taken for medical examination.
The prospect of a confrontation between the Youth Congress and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists prompted the police to use the rear gate of the district court complex in Wanchyoor to produce Mr Sabrinadhan before a magistrate. Hours after the Congress leader was granted bail, CPI(M) workers protested outside the court premises.
Police have beefed up security in various parts of the district in view of the possibility of violent protests and violent protests by the CPI(M) and the Congress.
