New Delhi:

Six persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in ammunition smuggling in Delhi ahead of Independence Day.

A huge quantity of ammunition including 2000 live cartridges has been recovered from them.

The accused were arrested from Anand Vihar in the national capital with two bag cartridges.

Eastern Range Assistant Commissioner of Police Vikramjit Singh said the consignment was for Lucknow and they were not ruling out any terror angle in the case.

“It appears that the accused are part of a criminal network. Panic angle cannot be ruled out,” Mr Singh said.

Security has been tightened in the national capital as India gears up for Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Police have also intensified patrolling and checking of vehicles.

Tight security arrangements have been made at all sensitive places in Delhi including metro stations, railway stations, airports and markets, police said.

Officials said that hotels, parking lots and restaurants are being checked and a verification drive of tenants and servants is being conducted.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law) said, “On the occasion of Independence Day, over 10,000 police personnel in various roles will be deployed on the routes leading to the Red Fort and the venue. We made flawless and smooth security arrangements for the day. Is.” and orders) Deependra Pathak was quoted by news agency PTI.
