India, as the current Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), hosted a meeting of National Security Advisors (NSAs) and top officials in the national capital today. In his remarks before the meeting, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval said, “I take the pleasure of the members for accepting the invitation for the meeting.” Ajit Doval said terrorism of any kind is a threat to international security. ” All countries have to fulfill their responsibility towards the UN Security Council as well as the Counter Terrorism Protocol to deal with terrorism. The next important SCO meeting will be the Defense Ministry meeting to be held in Delhi on April 27-29.

This will be followed by the SCO Foreign Minister’s meeting in Goa on May 4 and 5 and the SCO summit in July. There is a possibility of participation of heads of state of SCO members. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental organization established in 2001 and consists of eight member states. India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are its members. India became a full member of SCO on June 9, 2017. There are four observer states namely Afghanistan, Iran and Mongolia and six liaison partners – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was established two decades ago with the aim of promoting economic, political and military cooperation among its member states. The eight member states of the OSC represent approximately 42 percent of the world’s total population and 25 percent of global GDP. According to a statement by the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, will participate in the annual meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of SCO members in New Delhi on Wednesday.
