Jammu and Kashmir Police say they have uncovered two targeted attacks and the kidnapping and killing of a soldier last week.
Police said on Monday that the three killers involved in the attacks have been arrested and efforts are on to trace the mastermind of these murders.
Terrorist violence and attacks on targets have increased in Jammu and Kashmir in the past two weeks. Eight people, including three sarpanches or village heads, have been killed.
Three persons involved in the murder of BJP leader and sarpanch Shabbir Ahmed Mir in Kulgam district were arrested on Monday, police said. Mir was shot point blank on Friday. He was the third panchayat member killed by terrorists in 10 days.
According to the police, arms and ammunition including two pistols used in Mir’s murder have been recovered from the accused.
In another case of kidnapping and murder of an Army jawan Sameer Ahmed Malla, police said a terrorist associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba was arrested in Budgam.
According to Inspector General Vijay Kumar, three others involved in the murder have been identified.
“The death of Khag Budgam constable Samir Ahmed Malla became a terrorist act of kidnapping and murder. A terrorist associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba involved in the crime arrested. Another three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were also identified and Will be dealt with under law soon,” the police tweeted.
On Sunday, police said a terrorist and his associate were arrested within 24 hours of the killing of an off-duty Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF jawan. Mukhtar Ahmed, who was on leave at home, was murdered in Shopian district on Saturday.
The pistol used in the attack has also been recovered from the arrested terrorist.
