Tesla will notify owners and fix the problem free of charge

According to the US auto safety regulator, Tesla is recalling about 500,000 electric vehicles because of a trunk problem that increases the risk of a crash. Elon Musk’s electric auto company has carried out two separate recalls to address issues that could disable the backup camera or cause the hood to open unexpectedly. The company will notify the owners and fix the problem free of charge.

Tesla notified regulators on December 21, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) formally acknowledged the issue on Wednesday. The large recall affects more than 355,000 Model 3 vehicles in which the frequent opening and closing of the trunk can damage a cable for the rearview camera. According to the NHTSA Safety Recall Report, “The unavailability of a rearview camera display may affect a driver’s rear view and increase the risk of a collision.”

Tesla says just one percent of the recalled Model 3 vehicles have problems

Tesla estimated that just one percent of the recalled Model 3 vehicles had problems, and the company had no accidents or injuries, NHTSA said. The other recall covers approximately 120,000 Model S vehicles with problems with the latch assembly for the front trunk hood. An estimated 14 percent of the recalled vehicles have problems.

NHTSA stated, “If the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the trunk may open without warning and obstruct the visibility of the driver, increasing the risk of an accident. ” The report states that Tesla has not suffered any accidents or injuries due to this problem. The company is expected to send the letter to the owners on February 18 and reimburse those who have already paid to fix the issue.
