The accused in the Keshavdaspuram murder case was detained by the police

The city police on Tuesday detained West Bengal native Adam Ali, the prime suspect in the murder of Manorama, a resident of Keshavdaspuram from Chennai.

A three-member team of Medical College Police had gone to Chennai a day ago when the accused was caught by the Railway Protection Force while allegedly trying to board a train to Kolkata. He was kept in custody at RK Nagar police station till the arrival of the police team from Kerala.

While the accused was later produced in a local court in Saidapet, Chennai, the Kerala Police obtained a warrant for his custody. The team was expected to reach Thiruvananthapuram early Wednesday.

The investigation team is yet to reveal the circumstances that led to the murder. While around seven gold sovereigns were allegedly stolen from the victim, the police were yet to ascertain whether the accused sold the ornaments or hid them before fleeing.

Police are also investigating the possibility that Adam had the help of an accomplice in carrying the body to the well of the adjacent house.
