An American citizen, who came to India about 9 years ago, was recently taken up to LinkedIn to share how he had changed his life for a courageous step years ago. In a long post, Elliott Rosenberg revealed that he made “rare financial decisions” 12 years before going abroad as he was disappointed with inflation affecting the quality of life in the US. Initially, he traveled to Brazil, firm to pursue a business venture, about which he was emotional. Later, he began an expanded journey through Asia before deciding to settle in Goa, where he now enjoys a comfortable lifestyle, which costs him less than 1 lakh rupees.
In his post, Mr. Rosenberg faced those problems while living in the US. In addition to the high cost of living in the US, he also admitted that the real issue is in “Lifestyle Creep”. In the following lines, he discussed social pressure to spend money on fancy restaurants, concerts, travels etc. to avoid losing friendship. He explained that this pressure inspired him to decide to go out of America.
After graduation, Mr. Rosenberg said that he bought a way for Brazil to start a business, in which he really believed. He said that living in Brazil proved to be much more cheap. He wrote, “It was alone and uncomfortable, but I could take the risk of staying out of $ 5,000 in savings, while I detected things,” he wrote.
A few years later, he then traveled across Asia, visited 17 countries in 15 months. He said, “Yes, I funded it a lot with credit card points, but Southeast Asia was still very cheap,” he shared, “I had incredible adventures with friends who joined parts of my journey and became more flexible with a single journey.”
Eventually, his visit took him to India, where he has now lived for the last nine years. He said, “I met my wife here, got close to my family, learned Hindi, made lifetime bonds, and started 2 businesses.”
Mr. Rosenberg shared where he lives in the present and spends monthly to live comfortably with his family. “We do not stress about money, and we take risks without fear of running our own businesses (serving American-based customers who pay us in dollars). There are downsides to live abroad, but I am completely adjusted and happy here. I am still an American citizen and still visit America. I do not have any plan to self-righteous.”
