After a huge spike in COVID-19 cases since mid-January, the district has been witnessing a steady decline in the past one week. From a daily case load of over 2,000, it came down to 69 on Monday and 121 on Tuesday morning.
Experts in the medical fraternity say the curve appears to be flattening and by the end of the month, the daily count may drop to single digits.
“The third wave started around the first week of January and peaked from January 15 to around January 30. But since then we are witnessing a steady decline and it was anticipated as per the predictions of ICMR and WHO,” VIMS (Visakha) said. Said Institute of Medical Sciences) Director K. Rambabu.
“The positivity rate has gone up to over 40% in the third week of January which has dropped to around 10% on Tuesday. This is a good sign and we can say that the curve is going down sharply. But it is time that we have to be more careful and not get complacent,” said PV Sudhakar, former principal of Andhra Medical College.
The positivity rate is decreasing not only in Visakhapatnam or the state, but also at the national level. At the national level, it has already come down to 10%, he added.
Although there is a significant drop, the medical fraternity is cautious in saying that the third wave is coming out and perhaps the pandemic is nearing its end.
It is a bit early to say, as a lot depends on the mutation of the variant, but as of now the indications are positive, said a senior doctor in the COVID ward at KGH.
According to medical experts, the effective time period for an epidemic is about three years, during which period it causes havoc. According to that theory and the current trend, it can be suggested that at least Ripple is on its way. But it is too early to say that the epidemic is nearing its end, as mutations do occur and its reproductive period can exceed a year. But this period should be used to fully immunize the entire population and increase medical facilities, so that in case of more virus, it can be changed to a milder version, as happened in the third wave, Dr Sudhakar said. said .
121 new cases
Meanwhile, 121 new cases were reported in the district in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning. There were no deaths and active cases further reduced to 1,251 during the same period.
