Social media users shared their efforts to recreate the dessert from the squid game. Squid Game is a show that pits people from financially vulnerable backgrounds against each other in a children’s game for $39 million, but the stakes are unimaginably high. In fact, Reuters reported that the candy has become a global fad, bringing profits to the candy makers who originally supplied the sweets for the show. According to a Reuters report, An Yong-hui has been making candy in a university district in the South Korean capital, Seoul, for the past eight years. It also reported on a cafe in Singapore that runs a squid game challenge where undertakers have to break a dalgona candy without damaging its shape.

Squid game has become quite popular globally. Recently, a South Korean man has been intercepted by thousands of phone calls after his number appeared in the new Netflix hit, reports the New York Post. In another twist, the man was offered around 63 lakh rupees (100 million won) by a South Korean presidential candidate in exchange for numbers. The unidentified person receiving the call has the same phone number that was given to the contestants of the fictional show. After hearing about it, the honorary head of the National Revolutionary Party, Huh Kyung-young, who announced his bid for the presidency last month, said on Facebook: “I heard squid show up on a business card at the game The owner of the given phone number is the victim. Serious damage from prank call. I want to buy number for 100 million won.

The Netflix original series, The Squid Game, is currently ranked number one in the worldwide streaming giant. The South Korean show debuted less than two weeks ago on the streaming service. The addictive K-drama is rapidly gaining in viewership globally, such that it can surpass current ranking record holder Bridgerton. Squid Game is tracking as its biggest show of all time, and is currently ranking as the number one show on the platform in several countries.
