The Delhi government has extended its old excise policy for another six months. Officials gave this information on Wednesday. Under the old excise policy, only state corporations are allowed to retail liquor in the city. The current excise policy expired on March 31 and is now valid till September 30. Officials said that the government has also directed the Excise Department to bring a new policy soon. He told that on Wednesday, Sharma Arvind cleared the proposal of extension of the old policy.

Meanwhile, the government has also announced that there will be five dry days in the national capital in the next three months. These days will fall on Mahavir Jayanti (4 April), Good Friday (7 April), Id-ul-Fitr (22 April), Buddha Purnima (5 May) and Id-ul-Zuha on 29 June. It is unfortunate that the sale of liquor stops on dry days. The government had implemented its old excise policy after withdrawing the Excise Policy 2021-22 in September last year.
The Delhi government had withdrawn the Excise Policy 2021-22 last year. The alleged tyrants in implementing this policy were investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under Lieutenant Governor V. Of. Saxena had done proxy. Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and in-charge of the Excise Department, was recently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to the excise policy.
