Islamabad: Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday alleged that a threatening email to the New Zealand cricket team was sent from India, prompting the Kiwis to cancel their tour of the country.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday decided to cancel next month’s bilateral series in Pakistan after the Kiwis canceled their first tour of Pakistan in 18 years last Friday due to a security threat. .

Pakistan has been claiming that India was behind some recent terror attacks in the country. India has dismissed these claims as “baseless propaganda” and asked Islamabad to take “credible and verifiable” action against terrorism emanating from its soil.

“It is not new for Pakistan to spread baseless propaganda against India. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Pakistan would do well to organize its home and make equal efforts to take credible and verifiable action against terrorism emanating from its soil and terrorists found safe havens there.” ” July.

“The international community is well aware of Pakistan’s reputation when it comes to terrorism. This has been acknowledged by none other than his own leadership, which continues to glorify terrorists like Osama bin Laden as ‘martyrs’.”

Speaking at a press conference with Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed here on Wednesday, Chowdhury claimed that a fake post was created in August in the name of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorist Ehsanullah Ehsan, who had attacked the New Zealand Cricket Board and the government. Was told to refrain from sending. It will be “targeted” for Pakistan as a team.

Despite this, the New Zealand cricket team toured Pakistan. However, on the day of the first match, New Zealand officials said their government was concerned about a credible threat and canceled the tour, they said.

“The officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board, the security team of the Ministry of Interior, everyone went to him and asked him to share the threat… [but] They were as clueless as us,” Dawn news quoted him as saying.

He said that a day later, a second threatening email was sent to the New Zealand team using Hamza Afridi’s ID.

Chowdhury claimed that the investigating officers found that the email was sent from a device connected to India. “It was sent using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), so the location was shown as Singapore,” he claimed.

He said the same device had 13 other IDs, almost all of which were Indian names.

“The equipment used to send the threat to the New Zealand team was from India. A fake ID was used but it was sent from Maharashtra,” he claimed.

He said the Home Ministry had registered a case and requested Interpol for assistance and information on Tehreek-e-Labbaik ProtonMail and Hamza Afridi’s ID.

Chowdhury said that the West Indies team was on a tour of Pakistan in December. “A threat has already been issued to the team,” he claimed, adding that it was also issued through a ProtonMail account.

“It is unfortunate. We believe this is a campaign against international cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and other bodies should look into this,” he said.

Chaudhry had claimed on Tuesday that his country was paying the price for saying no to the US on allowing US military bases on its soil.

Commenting on the decision to cancel his tour of England, Chowdhury said that British High Commissioner Christian Turner had made it clear that the advice of the United Kingdom government to Pakistan was not being changed.

“So if the government doesn’t mind, then who is the English Cricket Board? [to cancel the tour]? Claiming that players are tired is a lousy excuse,” he said.

He said that PCB Chairman Rameez Raja, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs will take up the issue at all relevant forums and Pakistan Television will assess the financial loss.

“We are working on it and if our legal team allows, we will sue the ECB,” he said. –PTI
