As the entire continent waits with bated breath for Ursula von der Leyen’s State of the European Union address on Wednesday, there’s good news for those of you who can’t get enough SOTEU (as all cool kids call it) – a board game! Made by the European Commission only!
make one board game Not easy, but it has the added benefit of coming from the EU’s top laughing factory, the Commission. Because, as the old saying goes, “If you’re laughing, you’re learning.”
Playing the “Von der Leyen Commission 101” game involves downloading two PDFs, one with a game board and the other featuring questions and answers. All you need to do is provide a dice and a group of friends with an in-depth knowledge of EU policy-making (summer 2019-present). You then roll the dice and answer a variety of questions Subject.
These include: “Analysis of the defense investment gap and proposals for further measures to strengthen Europe’s defense industrial and technological base;” “Adopting an Action Plan to Stop Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing” – because nothing says fun like “terrorist financing”; – and “The Commission proposes the creation of the HERA Incubator.”
We won’t answer because it will spoil your fun, but here at Politico we played the game and can neither confirm nor deny that we did too bad. Some questions have multiple choice answers, which helps. But others don’t. And while some of the answers are simple – “Who was leading the EU negotiations on Britain’s withdrawal from the EU?” One is gimme – the others are somewhat harder.
Answer to the question “What is Vocational Education and Training?” 72 is words long and it is not clear from the rules whether you need all those 72 to re-roll the dice.
The winner is the first person to reach the finish line – and the prize is that you become the Executive Vice President on the next commission (probably)!
