The “Polar Express In Real Life”: Video Showing “Typical Workday In Antarctica” Stuns The Internet

The video has been viewed over 24 million times.

A video showing a “typical workday in Antarctica” is going viral on social media. The clip was shared on Instagram by Tomasz Kurczaba, whose bio says he is the head of the 47th Polish Antarctic Expedition. It depicts the movement of a strong wind outside a room while a man wearing a jacket, gloves, winter boots and goggles desperately attempts to close the door.

The caption of the post read, “Typical workday in Antarctica. 47th Polish Antarctic Expedition. King George Island.”

In the clip, a man firmly holds on to the door but gets swept away by the strong wind. The rustling wind also causes objects inside the room to appear to move. In one moment, the person recording the video is seen stretching out his arms while the other person tries to reach out.

Mr Kurczaba shared the clip a few weeks ago and it has since been viewed more than 24 million times. Internet users were astonished and many even believed that the video was recorded on the train.

One user wrote, “I thought it was a train.” “The Polar Express in real life,” said another.

A third user commented, “At first I thought it was a moving train… then I realized it isn’t,” while a fourth jokingly wrote, “It’s a flying house”. Another said, “After watching it 6 times now I understand what is happening here.”

Meanwhile, according to GuardianKing George Island is one of the craziest places on the Antarctic Peninsula with weather conditions changing rapidly by the minute. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Poland, Russia, South Korea and Uruguay all have year-round bases there. Others maintain summer-only stations.
