Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid star Luis García has said that FIFA should give the right to host the World Cup to non-traditional countries as a way to increase the popularity of football and inspire the next generation. The former Spanish footballer said that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will have a similar impact in the region.

“The World Cup in Qatar is an opportunity to inspire the youth of the region. Of course, they can watch sports on TV and get inspired. But when you can watch matches live, feel the atmosphere, watch the players live and even get autographs from them, that’s a different thing. That’s forever,” he said.
“You can watch any number of matches on TV, but the most important thing is to take inspiration after watching the World Cup live. So it bodes very well for the development of the game in the region.”
Garcia, who has traveled to Qatar in the past, said the ‘advanced cooling tech’ is a revolutionary idea that will prove to be a game changer for the players.
“Yes, of course. If players have to perform on the field, it has to be the best conditions for them to do so. The only way to do that in Qatar is to bring down the temperature.”
Garcia experienced a cooling off take when he was in Qatar to watch a game involving current Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández, who was in charge of El Saad at the time. Garcia revealed that the temperatures inside the World Cup stadiums were chilly at times.
“I was there in Qatar when Xavi Al Saad was the manager of SC. I was watching several games in the World Cup stadiums and you could see that it was sometimes cold inside the stadiums. When the cooling system was working perfectly If it happens, the temperature drops a lot. It’s important for the players.”
The Qatar World Cup will begin on November 21 and the final will be held on December 18. The World Cup matches will be hosted at eight venues and interestingly, most of them have advanced cooling tech that keeps the ambient temperature low and comfortable.
