Showcasing his impeccable talent for creativity, Nalla Vijay, a highly skilled weaver from the city of Sircilla, has created a charming silk saree that exudes natural fragrance, ahead of the National Handloom Day on August 7.
The 35-year-old weaver rose to prominence in recent years after making saris that fit into matchboxes and made from banana and lotus stem fibres.
Sri Vijay is carrying forward the legacy of his father Nalla Parandhamulu, a renowned weaver from the city of Sircilla who brought fame to the textile city in the 1980s and 90s.
In a fittingly artistic tribute to the craftsmanship of the skilled weavers of Sircilla, she has woven a fragrant silk saree over a powerloom using various natural aromatic substances over four days.
I have used ‘Sugandha Dravyalu’ to dye the silk thread in making scented silk sarees from Sri Gandham (Sandalwood), Pachha Karpuram, Jasmine flowers, rose petals and other natural ingredients. victory.
“I spent ₹12,000 to make this charming silk saree, which exudes natural fragrance,” he says, adding that the saree retains its fragrance for at least a year. It is ideal to wear scented saris on special occasions, he added.
