Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin said on Sunday that it has extended this week’s launch target of its New Shepard vehicle to Wednesday, delaying “Star Trek” actor William Shatner’s take on the edge of space by a day .
“Due to forecast winds in West Texas, we are advancing the NS18 launch target for Wednesday, October 13. Liftoff is targeted for 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC. Live broadcast http:// Starts at T-90 mins at BlueOrigin.com. Stay tuned for more details,” the company said in a tweet.
As part of today’s flight readiness review, the mission operations team confirmed that the vehicle met all mission requirements and that the astronauts began their training today. Weather is the only getting factor for the launch window, which is mentioned by the company on its site.
Known as Captain Kirk in the original “Star Trek” television series, Shatner will be part of a four-man crew aboard the suborbital NS-18 mission.
“I’ve heard about space for a long time. I’m taking this opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle,” said William Shatner.
The flight follows Blue Origin’s successful first manned flight on July 20 that included Jeff Bezos, Mark Bezos, aviation pioneer Wally Funk and Blue Origin’s first customer, Oliver Damon.
