A simple looking TikTok trend has shed light on how women are always on their guard in public places. In a video shared on Twitter, a man approaches random people for the purpose of shaking hands. When TikToker approached the men holding hands, he was met with a gentle handshake and a smile. But when the same TikToker reached out to random women with folded hands, they either dodged him or ignored him completely. Some of the women even tried to understand the situation as the man made his way towards them.
This apparent difference between the responses of men and women to random men approaching them sheds light on how years of traumatic experiences faced by women have affected their behavior.
People have been sharing their reactions to the TikTok video which has now been viewed by over 15 million users on Twitter. One user commented, ‘Good luck to those who have never been bothered just walking down the street.
The privilege belongs to those who have never been harassed just by walking in the street.

One woman shared her experience of facing harassment from her teen years and commented, “When I was ~19 years old, an older male client would shake my hand within my boundaries, and then not release it, And had taken me hostage while flirting with me, including holding my bare upper hand with my open hand, and I’ve never allowed a stranger to shake my hand when I tell you.”
