New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday said that the need of the hour is to integrate indigenous systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Yoga with modern systems of medicine.
Addressing the 62nd Foundation Day celebrations of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), the Union Health Minister appreciated the contribution of the Academy in the field of healthcare and released a book “Journey of NAMS”.
“There was never a shortage of manpower or brainpower in this nation. We just have to be confident… There should be more emphasis on research and innovation,” Mandaviya said.
The Minister said that India’s health facilities have made great strides during the COVID pandemic. “We not only developed the COVID-19 vaccine but also manufactured and exported them in a very short span of time. Disappointing projections were made on India’s COVID management strategy, but we were not only able to manage the pandemic well, but also shared our best practices globally.”
Mandaviya called upon the academy and researchers to collaborate with the private sector in research and innovation. He also welcomed suggestions for reforms in the health sector in India.
NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar and others were present in this program.
