Naresh Karthik, a Coimbatore-based businessman, has won a ‘No Cast, No Religion’ certificate for his 3.5-year-old daughter in determination.
Naresh Karthik runs a small designing firm based in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The father of a three-and-a-half-year-old boy took the decision after several private schools refused to process his child’s application as he had left the caste and religion column blank. Citing this, the person applied for a certificate issued by the Coimbatore North Tehsildar and received that ‘Baby Wilma does not belong to any caste or any religion’.
According to Naresh, “The state government passed an order in 1973 and later in 2000 allowing the caste and religion column to be left blank, but the school authorities are not aware of this. “I will not blame the school authorities alone, it is because of our education system that people are unaware of the existence of such a process,” he said.
as India A country bound by caste and religion, inequalities have existed for a long time. Thus humanity is questioned by the ‘caste’ which plays a role in Indian society. While such caste-based vision inequalities are still prevalent in India, Naresh and his wife wanted to take a leap to teach their daughter that she was ‘without caste’. Naresh also said that it is unfortunate that the school administration is unaware of the provision of not declaring one’s caste or religion.
My question is, how is it appropriate to make someone superior and inferior from birth? Thus a certificate is required for the creation of a casteless society.
Speaking to News18, Naresh Karthik said, “I read various holy books strongly and all I found are generally against the rights of women. Religion is just a way of life. Creation is done by religion. Also, caste shows that on the basis of birth a person is low and other is high. My question is, how is it proper to make someone superior and inferior by birth? Thus in a casteless society, The certificate is required for manufacturing. So I applied for and bought one in an attempt to bring in a casteless approach,” he said.
He further said that it is unnecessary to declare caste or religious identity except for those applying for a positive purpose like reservation. However, the step that has been taken now will certainly spread awareness that such a process exists and will make it easier for others, the businessman said.
“As I also focus on the education of children of prisoners released from jail and survivors of rape and domestic violence, I had direct access to the District Collector, who assisted us in this matter. I consider this certification as the first step towards eradication of caste. Don’t let my daughter generation know that there is a ‘caste’. We hope that this certification will be of great help in creating a caste-free society,” thus said Naresh.
Similarly, in 2019, a woman advocate from Vellore district, Sneha Parthibaraja became the first Indian to receive an official ‘no caste, no religion’ certificate issued by Tirupattur Tehsildar after a 9-year-long battle.
Speaking to News18, Sneha said, “We do not demand certificates for any benefit instead of creating awareness in the society. After 2019, more than 15 people in Tamil Nadu came forward to get the ‘no caste, no religion’ certificate which left me overwhelmed, giving hope that some changes will make society a better place without caste Will give Under the discretionary power of the Tehsildar, they grant ‘No Caste, No Religion’ certificate even for minors. It depends on the Tehsildar as some will not provide the children stating the reservation rights. Apart from this, we are planning to run a social justice movement across India that all states come forward to provide caste certificates,’ she said.
Young generation are the pillars of future India. Whoever gets the certificate should do justice by proving that they live without caste and religion.
Sneha further added, “Young generation are the pillars of future India. Whoever gets the certificate should do justice by proving that they live without caste and religion. Caste is something that came in the middle while human beings It is one of the protests against the abolition of caste from the society. However, people from the scheduled caste community approached me for help without getting a caste certificate, while I asked them before guiding them. Inquired about educational qualification and annual income. Overall this caste-free protest is against Varna system and Aryan caste system.
