With a war of words raging between the West Bengal government and Governor CV Anand Bose, speculation of a rift is rife as political experts have questioned whether the former governor is following in the footsteps of Jagdeep Dhankhar.
A tussle broke out between the governor and the West Bengal government after the BJP accused the TMC of attacking Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik. The governor issued a strong statement on Sunday evening, saying he would not remain a passive observer when the law and order situation in the state deteriorated. He said, “The Governor will not be a mute witness to the deterioration of law and order anywhere, anytime, anywhere in the State, and strong and effective intervention will be made to ensure that the rot is effectively rooted out, and May peace and harmony be restored.” in a tweet.
He also said, “It is shocking that such incidents took place in a land which is known for its refined culture and history of civilized conduct.”
The TMC has also hit back against the new governor with the party’s mouthpiece Jaago Bangla claiming that Bose is serving the BJP’s political agenda and questioning that he acted after hearing only one side of the story. Why issued the statement?
The governor’s term began positively with the Bengal government, with Bose expressing his desire to learn Bengali and participating in the “Hathe Khori” ceremony organized by the Governor’s House and promoted by the state government. However, BJP leaders soon complained to the new governor. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari did not attend the function.
The Governor recently visited Delhi and met Jagdeep Dhankhar. It remains to be seen whether the relations between the two parties will deteriorate or remain balanced due to the strong words of the Governor for the first time against the Bengal government.
