It is a known fact that Apple iPhones are premium class devices. Whether new or old, iPhones hold a lot of value. Take this for example. A tattoo artist is auctioning off his old iPhone 7 for $50,000 – the price of a Mercedes Benz SUV.
Apple iPhone 7 was launched in the year 2007 at a starting price of $599. The smartphone was the first of its kind and offered features such as a touch screen, 2MP camera and web browsing.
According to the auction listing website, the bid for the original iPhone 7 is currently nearing $18,505. It has an estimated selling price of $50,000 before the closing date.
Bids are open till February 19. A total of 16 bids have been placed so far. Last created on Feb 12.
Now, you might be wondering why a iphone The one which is 16 years old is selling at this price. This is because the device is unpacked. Even the plastic layer on the phone’s box is intact.
Apple iPhone 7 was a gift to tattoo artist- Karen Green. He got it from his friends to celebrate his first job. However, he never opened it as he had already bought a smartphone.
The smartphone is locked to the AT&T network which is now defunct in the US. The sad part is that whoever buys this device may not be able to operate it like a regular phone. But they will have a vintage Apple product.
Meanwhile, Apple is planning to bring USB Type-C port with the iPhone 15 series. According to a report by Macrumours, the company is currently planning to limit the Type-C port just like the Lightning port. The report states that the USB-C port and accompanying charging cable on the iPhone 15 will feature an authenticator chip like Lightning, potentially limiting their functionality with Apple-approved accessories.
