This is very appalling…: Cricketer appeals to stop killing of dogs in Kerala

Team India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has spoken on the issue of mass killing of dogs in Kerala. Shikhar Dhawan wrote on Twitter, “It is so appalling that there is a mass killing of dogs in Kerala. I would request to reconsider such steps and put an end to these brutal killings.”

Batsman Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa at home. Sources said the captaincy will be handed over to Dhawan as the players going for the T20 World Cup may be rested. India will play three T20 Internationals and ODIs against South Africa from 28 September.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said the problem of stray dogs cannot be solved by killing dogs and said a scientific solution should be found to address the issue.

CM Vijayan said, “The problem of stray dogs cannot be solved by killing dogs. To overcome this problem, the scientific solution implemented by the government needs the support of the general public. We need to solve this crisis.” We need to work together.”

“The government is implementing a planned solution for this. It is important to remember that beating, poisoning and tying up dogs on the streets will not solve this problem. Indulging in such acts is unacceptable. Similarly, people have to be domesticated. One should take care of the safety of the dogs and do not leave them on the roads,” he said.

Speaking on the measures being taken by the government to tackle the issue, the CM appealed to the public to protect domestic dogs and not leave them on the streets. “This problem cannot be solved by killing dogs. Registration of pet dogs will be made mandatory in the state. The panchayat will provide the registration certificate within three days of completion of vaccination of domestic dogs,” he told reporters here. Vijayan said that intensive vaccination campaign for stray dogs has already started in most of the local government bodies in the state.

The Chief Minister of Kerala also spoke briefly on the quality control of anti-rabies vaccines which is carried out by the Central Government. “Kerala Medical Services Corporation distributes vaccines only certified by central testing laboratories. Anti-rabies vaccine is available in government medical colleges, district hospitals, general hospitals, taluk hospitals, community health centres, selected family health centers and primary health centres, and It is provided completely free of charge.”

Rabies eradication projects are jointly implemented by local self-government bodies and the Department of Animal Welfare and September is being observed as Rabies Prevention Month.
