The Gujarat government has announced an 11 percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners with effect from July 1. With this, the new DA rate will increase from 17 per cent of the basic pay to 28 per cent. And it was equal to that provided to Central Government employees and pensioners.
The new DA will be reflected in the salary of September. The July dues will be given in October and the August dues in January next year.
“The central government, in July, increased the DA for its employees from 17 per cent to 28 per cent. Since the state government generally follows the central DA rates and revises accordingly, we have also increased the DA from 17 per cent to 28 per cent. According to a PTI report, this DA revision will benefit around 9.61 lakh state government and panchayat employees as well as 4.5 lakh pensioners covered under the Seventh Pay Commission. The increase will cost the state exchequer ₹378 crores every month.
In July, the Union Finance Ministry had issued an order to implement the cabinet’s decision to increase dearness allowance Up to 28% from July 1 for central government employees.
The Union Cabinet had approved an 11 per cent hike in DA and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and pensioners with effect from July 1, benefiting over 48 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners.
