This state is ready to give ‘wedding kit’ to spread awareness on family planning

For the first time in India, the Odisha state government has decided to provide ‘wedding kits’ to newly wed couples. The scheme is expected to be launched in September with an aim to raise awareness about family planning.

The wedding kits will be equipped with birth control pills, condoms and a booklet on methods and benefits of family planning. It will also contain marriage registration certificate among other items.

“It’s a part of the national” Health Mission (NHM) ‘Nai Pahal Scheme’. It aims to create awareness among newly wed couples to adopt family planning.”

The Director also confirmed that the initiative would start from the district and block level.

News agency PTI also spoke to Shalini Pandit, State Mission Director of NHM, “We will launch it for the first time in the country.”

Bijay Panigrahi also told that the recognized social health worker (Hope) Will visit scheduled wedding homes and distribute wedding kits.

“Couples will also be informed of the healthy spacing between childbirth,” he added.
