Twitter has begun the process of revoking legacy verified accounts, which started with mass unfollowing and now follows ‘nobody’. Twitter’s ‘Twitter Verified’ account, followed by 4.2 million accounts, now follows ‘zero’ accounts, whereas previously, it followed around 420,000 legacy verified accounts.
Twitter previously announced shutting down all legacy verified accounts from April 1 and removing the checkmark for those who still had but were not subscribed to Twitter Blue.
Variety previously reported that Twitter would remove the verified check-mark status of accounts that were verified prior to Elon Musk’s acquisition, unless they had subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan.

The only individual Twitter users who have verified blue check marks will be those paying for Twitter Blue. The company announced that Twitter Blue is now available worldwide and will cost $8/month via web and $11/month via in-app payment on iOS and Android.
The company tweeted from its official handle, “On April 1st, we will begin shutting down our legacy verified program and removing the legacy verified checkmark. People can sign up for Twitter Blue to keep their blue checkmark on Twitter.” ” However, Twitter has not revealed how it will deal with the accounts of people who have “notable” mentions on them.

Twitter recently introduced a gold check-mark for companies and brands and moved government accounts to a gray check-mark. Membership in the social network’s new Twitter Verified Organization program will be the only way to have a gold or gray check-mark badge in the US. Subscription will cost $1,000/month (plus tax) and $50/month (plus tax) for each additional affiliated sub-account.
Twitter introduced verified accounts in 2009 to help users identify whether celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organizations, and other accounts “of public interest” were real and not fake or parody accounts. Before the takeover of Elon Musk, the company did not charge for verification. Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of acquiring the company.
