Threat, attack, ‘husband and wife rift’-What happened behind the transfer of Katni SP in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Four IPS officers, including Inspector General of Police and a Deputy Inspector General, were called Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday as “regrettable public conduct”. Those transferred were Superintendent of Police, Avjit Ranjan, the Superintendent of Police of Katni.

In a post on X, CM Yadav said, “Superintendent of Police of Katni and Superintendent of Police of Datia, and IG, Dig Chambal Range have treated in a manner that is regrettable in public service. For this reason, I have instructed them to remove them with immediate effect.”

Ranjan’s transfer came after the allegations of Damoh Tehsildar Shailendra Bihari Sharma, that the Katni SP had threatened his wife Khyati Mishra, and other family members after being detained on Saturday.

According to the Tehsildar, Ranjan started harassing his wife Khyati Mishra, Katni City Superintendent of Police (DSP rank) in February this year, when he (Ranjan) was transferred and posted as Katni SP.

Sharma wrote to the Director General of Police (DGP) claiming that Ranjan was trying to “break my family”. He also claimed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav that Khyati was being blackmailed and threatened by Ranjan.

His father -in -law, Sharma further accused, Katni was also called and pressured to end the marriage between his (Sharma) and Kayati.

Finally, a week ago, Khyati Mishra was transferred to Amarpatan in Satna. Her husband alleged that when she was packing her belongings from her government residence in Katni on 28 May, Ranjan sent her to threatened and attacked “clothes in police uniform”. She was then taken to a women’s police station and beaten, Sharma alleged.

However, SP Khyati Mishra herself denies her husband’s allegations. In fact, in a letter to the Women’s Police Station in Katni, Khyati Mishra alleged that she was her husband Shailendra Sharma while she was packing her belongings, who “misbehaved with workers”.

He said, “He threatened to tie my hands and feet and take me back. My friends who came to meet me intervened, after which I told my superiors about it and informed about it,” He wrote in the letter.

Avijit Ranjan has also denied the allegations. He told media Sunday that he was dragged into a crack between a husband and wife.
