Three persons died in a blast which occurred in a granite quarry at Dabbaguda in Melaiputti mandal in Srikakulam district late on Friday (May 16, 2025) night.
The deceased were identified as B. Apparao, S. Rama Rao from Tekkali and K. Armugan, a native of Tamil Nadu and resident of Tekkali.
Though the proper reasons for the blast is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect that the use of gelatin sticks may have allegedly led to the blast.
District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar has constituted a committee to enquire and ascertain reasons for the about the blast. The committe under the supervision of RDO Tekkali, will have other members including DSP Tekkali, Assistant Director, Mines department, District Fire Officer and personnel from Disaster Management. The committee members have visited the site on Saturday morning and are yet to reveal facts. The authorities assured of strict action against people responsible for the incident.
In the meanwhile the District Collector has ordered for an audit check on all the quarries across the district on Saturday.
