Three famous restaurants of Kolkata honored with prestigious heritage

Three iconic restaurants of Kolkata – Trincas, Kwality and Mocambo have been presented with the heritage tag by the prestigious INTACH (Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage). Presented by GM Kapoor, Convener, the plaques were unveiled at three restaurants in Kolkata in the presence of owners and Culinary Heritage Project leader Ayan Ghosh and a member of INTACH. These brands were revered for being a part of the city landscape for quite some time, even as they are regarded as legends in their own right.

Speaking about the matter, INTACH member, Ayan Ghosh, who is leading the Culinary Heritage Project, said, “The city alone is fortunate in how long food and beverage establishments have survived, and their diverse Prasad (ranging from the famous sweets of Kolkata to the ubiquitous Kolkata biryani, rolls, phuchkas and jhalmuri), enrich the city’s culinary heritage. While documentation is a challenge, we estimate there are 250-300 establishments that are potentially a blue plaques. The blue plaques scheme provides a unique opportunity for the brands to associate with the city’s iconic food brands and appear at prominent locations.
