With this feature being tested, Instagram plans to “bring more videos front and center”. The feature will replace the home feed in that it will take up significantly more space for visual content, leaving a navigation bar at the bottom and a bar at the top. From the bottom navigation bar you can reach northDiscovery tab, Your page, etc. The top bar will have options from where you can check notifications, open messages, create new posts, etc.
Instagram has seen its reels gain more popularity as it contributes to over 20% of the time people spend on the platform and the push for more video content is the result.
Mosseri has sought feedback from Instagram users but it looks like the popularity of short-form videos isn’t going to wane any time soon. Instagram is also offering cash bonuses to top reel makers to get more people to adopt it. The platform is also investing in creator tools like templates, which allow creators to use the reels format for their videos. Also, since reposting TikTok on Instagram is also nothing meta Wanted, the platform will change its ranking algorithm to reward original content over reposted stuff.
