The announcement comes days after Kishor quit the Congress, noting that the party needs more leadership and collective will than him to fix deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms. Kishor had sought a free hand to revive the Grand Old Party, but a section of leaders was wary of his association with him and other political parties.
In Bihar, in particular, Kishor has worked with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the 2015 assembly elections, and was inducted into the JD(U) three years later by the CM, who was also the party president at the time. The data analyst, whose clients include people from Indian politics, had a meteoric rise in the JD(U) and rose to the post of national vice president within a few months, fueling speculation that he may have a reclusive chief minister. . He has found his political heir.
However, Kishor’s unfavorable stand on the CAA-NPR-NRC controversy angered the JD(U)’s alliance partner BJP. The JD(U) had ended voting in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament, only after a correction of sorts by Kumar, who passed a resolution against the proposed National Register for Citizens in the state assembly.
As Kumar tried to humiliate Kishor, the election strategist accused his party boss of lying and was sacked less than 24 hours later. He was then inducted into the Trinamool Congress as an election strategist, and was instrumental in the party’s resounding victory in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
