Check its colour: You must know that pure asafoetida is light brown in colour. When it is put in hot ghee, it starts to swell and its color becomes light red. If such a change does not happen with your asafoetida, then you should know that adulteration is present in it.

Smell the purity of asafoetida can also be checked by its smell. Wash your hands with soap after touching. The fragrance of real asafoetida will not go off the hands. But when you touch fake asafoetida, its smell disappears as soon as you wash your hands.

Price difference: The best way to differentiate between real and fake asafoetida is their price. Real asafoetida is expensive and is not available everywhere.

Dissolve in water Another way to identify the quality of asafoetida is that when it is dissolved in water, its color turns milky white. If the color does not change then asafoetida is fake.
