As a tribute to Tamil poet, writer, and public speaker Nandalala, who died on March 4, the Tiruchi Corporation has adopted a resolution to rename Thirunagar 3rd Main Road in Karumandapam after him.
During the council meeting here on Friday, Mayor M. Anbazhagan highlighted Nandalala’s literary contributions and his book on Tiruchi. He said the loss was not only to his family but to the entire people in the city. The resolution said the road would be renamed as ‘Thirunagar Kavignar Nandalala Main Road’ as a tribute to the poet who was deeply involved in the literary and cultural circuit in Tiruchi.
A letter was sent to the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government for the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, and permission had been obtained for renaming the road. All the councillors supported the resolution.
Meanwhile, a section of councillors urged the Corporation to remove references to caste identities in street names and install new street name boards.
