TMC leader Babul Supriyo on Saturday won the Ballygunge assembly bypoll in Bengal by defeating his nearest CPI-M rival Saira Shah Haleem by a margin of 20,228 votes.
Mr. Supriyo got 51,199 votes as against Haleem’s 30,971 votes.
Interestingly, Haleem has outperformed BJP’s Kea Ghosh, who got only 13,220 votes, thus giving some credence to the Communist Party’s claim that it is on the path of revival.
Congress’s Kamaruzzaman Choudhary got 5,218 votes.
