To fulfill promises…: BJP’s manifesto offers these to farmers, youth, students, women and children of Karnataka

The ruling BJP on Monday released its manifesto for the elections to be held in Karnataka on May 10. It said it will provide three free cooking gas cylinders to all BPL families – one each during the months of ‘Ugadi’, ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ and ‘Deepavali’.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka elections.

The BJP said it would give three free cooking gas cylinders to all BPL families – one each during the months of ‘Ugadi’, ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ and ‘Deepavali’.

According to the manifesto, “We will implement the UCC in Karnataka on the basis of the recommendations given by a high-level committee, which is to be constituted for the purpose.” The municipal corporation in the state will provide affordable, quality and healthy food across the state.”

It also promised to launch the ‘Poshan’ scheme, through which every BPL family would be provided with half a liter of ‘Nandini’ milk and five kilos of ‘Sri Anna – Siri Dhanya’ monthly ration kits every day.

Have a look at the promises made to farmers, poor, women, children, students and youth:

12 promises for farmers

      1. 1,000 Farmer Producer Organizations including 200 fish FPOs in 5 years
      2. Bhagirathi Shapath: A comprehensive irrigation system by completing all irrigation projects like Bhadra, Upper Krishna, Kalasa Bhaduri in a time bound manner. To ensure 100% coverage of all existing lift irrigation projects with Field Irrigation Channel (FIC). Implementing Israeli model of drip irrigation leveraging PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana for last-mile delivery of water to farms.
      3. K-Agri Fund of Rs 30,000 crore: for setting up micro-cold storage facilities and agro-processing units on the lines of Nandini model in all gram panchayats through PPP model under Krishi Bandhu scheme; Modernization and Digitization of APMCs; affordable farm mechanization infrastructure; 5 new Agro Industry Clusters and 3 new Food Processing Parks.
      4. Cold storage facilities near airports and sea ports for convenient storage and distribution.
      5. Dairy Farming: Increase the incentive given to dairy farmers to Rs 7 per litre; Mobile veterinary clinics to provide emergency treatment for injured and sick animals in every taluka.
      6. Sree Sampada through Sree Anna Mission: To create an ecosystem for millets; To increase the subsidy for millet cultivation from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per hectare for millet farmers under Raita Siri scheme. Five modern millet processing units (Grader, Dehler and Destoner) in all millet intensive areas. State branding of ragi and jowar produced in the state should be recognized internationally.

      7. Free transportation of agricultural, horticultural and dairy products up to 50 kg from villages to urban markets.
      8. Mission Kadalmaklu: Will be launched for fishermen to ensure creation of a comprehensive support system to enhance production, processing and export of fishery products.
      9. 80% subsidy to farmers for using solar pumpsets under Kusum scheme.
      10. Rs 500 crore organic farming mission and Karnataka Organics brand to set up outlets in major tourist destinations and state capitals across the country.
      11. A food testing laboratory in every district to facilitate rapid certification and grading of food products and agricultural produce.
      12. Rs 1,000 crore ‘Price Stabilization Fund’ to protect agriculture and horticulture produce from price fluctuations in the market.

7 promises for the poor

      1. Three free cooking gas cylinders annually to all BPL families; One each during the months of Yugadi, Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali.
      2. Expansion of the ‘Multi-storeyed Housing Scheme’ to cover all major cities of Karnataka with a target of constructing five lakh houses for the urban poor.
      3. ‘Atal Aahar Kendra’ in each ward of each Municipal Corporation of the State to provide affordable, quality and healthy food across the State with special focus on delivery boys, cabs, auto drivers and unorganized workers.
      4. ‘Poshane’ scheme through which every BPL family will be provided with half a liter of Nandini milk and 5 kg of Sri Anna – Siri Dhanya monthly ration kits per day.
      5. ‘Sarvarigu Soru Yojana’ under which the revenue department will identify 10 lakh housing sites across the state and distribute them to siteless/homeless beneficiaries.
      6. 10 lakh houses in 5 years with assistance of up to Rs.5 lakh by the state government.
      7. Elimination of manual scavenging in cities like Tumakuru and Hubli Dharwad through mechanization and adoption of the Singapore model on a pilot basis.

4 promises for students

      1. As per NEP guidelines, triple the budget allocation for education to 6% of GSDP to ensure quality education for every student in the state.
      2. ‘Pre-Class Mission’ (Pre-Primary Education): To ensure that every child in pre-primary and primary school acquires basic literacy and numeracy by 2025. Under this mission, all 65,911 existing Anganwadis to be converted into new-generation ‘Saksham Anganwadis’ and all qualified Anganwadi workers to become Academic Resource Persons (ARPs) which will enable them to teach preschool students.
      3. A Karnataka Institute technology (KIT), on the lines of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), in every district.
      4. Visvesvaraya Vidya Yojana: Under which the state government will partner with eminent individuals and institutions for overall upgradation of government schools to top-notch standards.

6 promises for women and children

      1. Industrial clusters in each district, as Viability Gap Funding in the form of a dedicated revolving fund of Rs 1500 crore for women-led enterprises in those clusters.
      2. Hostels for working women and women students at Hubli, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Mysore, Mangaluru, Tumakuru and Davanagere in PPP model.
      3. The ‘Suraksha Janani Bharvase Kit’ which includes six nutrition kits and financial assistance of Rs 21,000 for each pregnant woman.
      4. To increase the pension for widows from the existing Rs.800 to Rs.2,000 per month.
      5. Shishu Vihar in all industrial clusters and construction sites through PPP model.
      6. ‘Onke Obavva Social Justice Fund’: This scheme by way of matching deposit of up to Rs.10,000 on 5 years fixed deposit made under the scheme by women belonging to SC, ST families.

5 promises for youth

    1. ‘Samanvay’ to foster collaboration between SMEs and SICKs, creating a dynamic ecosystem of education and employment for talented young professionals.
    2. Career support for aspiring youth by providing financial incentives to students to pursue coaching for IAS/KAS/Banking/Government jobs; Waiver of bus ticket fee for all candidates traveling for UPSC examinations.
    3. A seed capital of Rs 10 lakh to a youth SHG from all the gram panchayats of the state for their own start-up under the Swami Vivekananda Yuvshakti Yojana.
    4. To transform Karnataka into a global sporting power by encouraging athletes and creating a world class ecosystem for Karnataka sportspersons to participate in national and international events with financial support and quality training. To set up 7 international level multi-sport arenas equipped with residential and training facilities with an arena in each arena including a hockey stadium at Kodagu.
    5. Kabaddi Training Centers provide ‘Swadeshi Cried’ and Kabaddi Mats in all Taluk Centres. In addition, a National Center of Excellence for Kabaddi will be set up in Karnataka.
