DRDE Director Dr Manmohan Parida said that the proposed Advanced Biological Defense Research Center (ABDRC) will focus on the dreaded virus, its impact on humans and come up with safeguards and develop tools to fight them.

“The new ABDRC laboratory will develop ways to quickly address virus attacks with the help of artificial intelligence and cyber techniques. The ABDRC is going to have Biosecurity Level (BSL)-4, which very few countries currently have,” Parida was quoted as quoted by PTI.

Parida said that the DRDE laboratory has been successful in equipping T-90 tanks to deter nuclear, chemical and biological attacks, adding that “even Israel and Egypt have shown keen interest in our products”. Is”.

The senior official said that amid the coronavirus outbreak, DRDE has come out with high quality sanitizers, N-95 masks and PPE kits, while a recently developed LAMP kit for PCR testing has shown encouraging preliminary results.

He said his organization would join hands with IITs and universities to increase their role in biological defence, as well as promote scientific temper and research for the benefit of the people.
