talking to reporters Jal Darshani Guest Houseunion president Kurubur Shantakumar He said that the association has pressurized the government to fix sugarcane procurement at Rs 3,500 per tonne from farmers for the current season on the lines of Uttar Pradesh. “We have written a letter to the government, and have even taken up the issue with the ministers and officials concerned, but the state is delaying the process,” he said.
“Since the sugar mills have started procuring sugarcane, the government should immediately announce its decision,” he said. He alleged that most of the sugar mills cheat the farmers in weight and measure, as well as rob the growers on the charges of transportation, cutting sugarcane. “Therefore, the government should address such issues of the producers on priority basis,” he said.
